Consumer Alert's mission is to enhance understanding and appreciation of the consumer benefits of a market economy so that individuals and policymakers rely more on private rather than government approaches to consumer concerns.
Consumer Alert is the only free-market public interest group whose sole mission is to represent average consumers as purchasers of goods and services in a dynamic and competitive marketplace.
With offices in Washington, D.C., Consumer Alert has individual members in all 50 states. Consumer Alert is governed by a 9-member board of directors and is advised by a 36-member advisory council.
Consumer Alert, a 501 (c)(3) organization, is supported by tax-deductible contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations. Our contributors agree that an independent consumer organization that supports the principles of sound science, consumer choice and free-market competition is a critical element in public policy debates. Consumer Alert makes its own decisions about which consumer issues to focus on based on the principles outlined above.
